Ney Lessons
In this section, I want to teach you how to blow ney by giving some easy methods. If there is something that you do not understand from the pictures or the videos, please contact me. I do not like long and boring lessons so I will try to teach you how to blow ney as quick as possible.
The first thing you need is a ney, of course. If you have one, it does not matter what type it is. If you do not have one, I suggest you buy a “kız ney” that is ergonomic and ideal for beginners.
An important warning: Please do not start next lessons before completing the previous ones. I assure you that you can blow ney if you do exactly what I suggest you do.

Lesson – 1
The right ney holding and sitting position: Many neyzens hold neys against the left side of their body, regardless of whether they are left- or right-handed, and therefore you will hold it so. You must cover the thumb-hole in back with your right-hand thumb. If you do not cover it completely, you can not get any sound (see the photo below).
Then, cover the second hole from the top with your right-hand middle finger (see the photo below).
Put the palm of your left hand on your left knee (see the photo below).
Cover the middle hole of ney with your left-hand middle finger (see the photo below).
Since you are in sitting position, it is normal to lean forward. After a while, your body will find its best position, so do not worry about the right sitting position (see the photo below).
Ok..! Let us get a sound now..! Blow across the hole of your ney as if you are whistling (or as if you are saying "too") (see the photo below).
To get a sound resonance, blow a bit diagonally. Repeatedly blow until you get a sound. Try to keep it constant and learn to make a sound consistently (see the photo below).
Finally, our first lesson is over. This lesson was about getting only for constant, not necessarily good, sound and so please do not try fingerings, trill or playing some sheet music. Just concentrate on making constant sound.
